Tips for a fantastic photo session

I love documenting moments. I love to step back and let interactions unfold- I find the best photography in fleeting seconds, glances and happenings at a blink of an eye. Other details are important too and I've thought through some key things to remember for our shoot- read on below!

Be truthfully YOU.

Take your personality to the shoot. Playful, stoic or serene. I let you set the pace for our session so feel free to let everything flow. Joke, whisper, be awkward, be vulnerable- it is OK. Remember that this is your day, so be you and only you.

Choose a meaningful location.

Not just a pretty one, but a place that means something. The environment will impact our shoot in a big way, so make sure it reflects who you are and that you are in love with everything about it.

Get comfortable.

If you could take the day off, I recommend it. Spend the day with each other and come relaxed. Wear clothes that you are comfortable in and that represent your own personal style. And pack as minimally as you can so you can move around. I am pretty mobile on shoots to capture all the little moments.

Not perfect is OK.

It's OK to be messy. There may be wind; there may be water on your shirt or dirt on your shoes. In New Jersey we are used to humidity, traffic and random thunderstorms. It's nothing a box of donuts and a good coffee can't fix so I tend to take these in stride. Life isn't perfect and we can't expect ourselves to be. What we can be is honest.

Bring an open spirit.

Have an idea? Let me know. I love learning from my sessions and everything comes together more if we are all open and working with each other. Seriously, ideas welcome.

The fun lies in the moments in between.

Forget the photo shoot and let the moments unfold. If you like to dance, dance! Hold hands, jump, spin, run. I even bring a little speaker with us for music. I'll be there with the camera, but it doesn't have to feel like it. Just have fun- it's your day after all.
