True to Life. Timelessly Imperfect.

Jose Melgarejo is a Wedding Photographer in Brooklyn New York City. I have spent almost a decade documenting weddings and couples’ stories in NYC and beyond.

I choose a documentary approach that values great moments.

Jose was an absolute pleasure to work with from start to finish. He was kind, flexible and patient with us. Not only is he a great human, but his photography is out of this world. Our wedding pictures took my breath away. When taking pictures, Jose is unobtrusive, allowing you to feel at ease, which in return, allows him to capture such beautiful organic moments of everyone in attendance. If you are considering Jose to photograph a special moment, prepare to be stunned!

Jose perfectly captured my fiancé and me in a fun, engaging and comfortable engagement photo session on Asbury Park Beach! His laid back, easy-going personality made it comfortable to be ourselves and is evident in the photos. Jose has a way of telling a story through photography that is unmatched and his artistic style is beautiful! If you have an opportunity to work with him, don't pass it up!

2024 Hot Take: Pretty pictures really don’t matter (as much as the moments in them).

In late 2023, I decided to completely switch my style to a documentary approach to photography at weddings. This was my response to the highlight reel aesthetic of social media in the wedding industry that has put so much pressure on couples to be people who they are not.

A documentary approach ensures that real moments, big and small, are preserved with little to no intervention. The approach moves away from staged and posed shots to create a more personal narrative that represents what you are about. In fact, most of the photos my couples love the most are not the most aesthetic– they’re the ones with real emotion.

Sound interesting? If you relate to the below, a documentary approach could a good fit for you:

A romantic black and white photo of a couple kissing beside Citibike bicycles on a Brooklyn street.

Photography that boldly combines life and art.

Embracing our ability to be imperfectly human.

Life is messy. So is love and art. The best photographs are sometimes the ones that are in the moment and not over-engineered.

Reality as an art form.

Classic, not contrived. Where less is more - for those who want something, creative, spontaneous and daringly timeless.

How important to you are real moments at your wedding?

Proudly Photographing Love for All.

And not just during PRIDE. To love is to be human. We need to embrace love – with whomever, wherever, and however you show it.
