Two years ago, I took this photograph of Laura and Hector in La Graciosa in the Canary Islands. La Graciosa is a national park in the Canaries – a group of Spanish islands off the coast of northern Africa in the middle of the Atlantic. In recent years, the islands have played a heart full host for traveler looking to have a destination wedding or elopement. The Canary Islands are known for their black sand and white sand beaches and volcanic landscape. Outside the main hubs of Gran Canaria, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Fuerteventura is a landscape that captures both the calm of the desert and the wildness of the sea.
My introduction to the Canary Islands came with an invitation to attend the Wolves Workshop a workshop and gathering for destination wedding photographers from all over the world – Spain, Italy, Germany, France, the Netherlands and more.
La Graciosa is a beautiful island a plane ride away from Grand Canary Island and accessible by boat from Lanzarote.
Our couple- Laura and Hector are truly in love. With life and with each other. In love with their home the Canary Islands. We spent the week with each other sharing stories about our travels and my life back home in New York. Laughing about words in Spanish that didn’t quite translate. Watching the waves and sea gulls and waiting for the sunset. Listening to the howl of the wind over the boats in the harbor at night.
